The Seasons

Stone fruit require a cold winter in order to crop. Peaches and nectarines are the least cold-demanding and can be successfully grown in the subtropics. This makes the cool climate of the Yarra Valley an ideal location for growing the best quality possible. The Yarra Valley's cool climate is also suitable for other crops, and in particular grapes. A drive along the Warburton Highway in the Autumn months is a colour-filled experience as the seasonal changes paint the rolling foothills.

At Rayner's Orchard we have over 30 years of experience in orchard management, and apart from the well known varieties of stone fruit we also specialise in a myriad of 'interspecific varieties' such as Plumcots, Pluots and Peachiums which offer the best of each of the base varieties from which they are derived.

The proof is in the eating

Apart from the health benefits of a good fruit diet (lo fat, hi fibre, hi energy ...) all the varieties of stone fruit available from our orchard just simply taste magnificent

Whilst summer is the best season for produce, spring and autumn produces excellent fruit in many varieties. Our traditional seasons for our main varieties are as follows

Variety Season
Apricots November to February
Peaches November to April
Nectarines November to March/April
Plums January to April
Plumcots November to December
Pluots December to February

Summers favourite fruit selection is not only a delicious way to satisfy your cravings for something sweet with their natural sugar content, they are also full of goodness.
